Yes.We were advised that it could recur and that ultimatly,he might need surgery after which it might also recur. At least we feel that he is in good hands. I will continue to update.

Cyst was injected with cortisone today guided by ultrasound. The doctor said the cyst was very tiny (skinny and elongated) and she did not aspirate it-just the injection. Will post an update on the results over time. Fingers always crossed.

Injection was friday.Pain was improved for past 3 days. Today, the pain was worse than it had been.I have a bad feeling that the cyst has returned. Will see the orthopedic doctor the coming friday and am not hopeful. From what I have read, treatments are generally a crapshoot. Not a good situation for a hockey player.....

Final installment(for now).Saw the doctor today. The pain my son is feeling is closer to the toes and probably not related to the cyst. The area that was painful is now just slightly tender at the injection site.Impossible to know right now if the cyst has returned or will return. He said the MRI had been seen by 2 radiologists who felt it was very tiny.He did not feel it would be worth injecting again if it returned. He felt that palliative measures such as padding the skate, ice, and anti-inflammatories as needed combined with "sucking it up" were the most realistic options to try and if it should become larger and excessivly painful, he would remove it.I am hoping that knowing that he is not harming tendons or ligaments will help psycologically. Thanks again Dr. Jeff for all your help and support!

Hi Dr. Jeff, My son has been padding his skate, plus has pro-stock,highly padded tongues on his skates. He puts a foam doughnut over the area where the cyst was (or is, who knows) and a silicone pad below the toes, but the pain that is disturbing him the most is about 1 inc below toes 2-5 which are clawed (maybe hammered also.Shoes aggravate it and he is usually in flip-flops which concerns me as well.I bought him the pad with the double toe loops which straightenes his toes and gives some relief. The doctor didn't seem to think the clawed toes were an issue, but how could they not be? Can this be the cyst that has returned and is pressing on a nerve? So frustating!
