I've read in a variety of places that wearing "stiff soled shoes" is helpful to those who, like myself, have some arthritis of the big toe joint, since a stiffer sole reduces the range of motion required of the joint......but no one ever offers to name shoe brands where one can find a stiff soled shoe. Can you offer any specific shoe brands/models that qualify as "stiff soled"?

Dansko is a great product with a stiff sole and EXTREMELY comfortable! Lots of doctors and nurses wear them. I wouldn't be without mine. PS Have had both MTP joints fused due to hallux rigidus and they are great before and after.

Thanks for the reply.....unfortunately I tried on Dansko's today and they just won't work for me - my instep is too high and they're extremely tight across the top of the foot in my size.

I should have mentioned that I'm a 55 year-old male.....anyone have other options for the elusive "stiff soled shoe"?

You probably tried on the Dansko "Professional" clogs? Did you know that Dansko also makes lace up shoes. I also have a high arch but the clogs are super comfortable for me. You can maybe go to www.zappos.com and check out the wide variety of Dansko shoes for men. You may also want to do a search for a brand called "Drew". They make a similar sole and also a rocker bottom.

PS Zappos has free delivery and a 365 day free return policy! You can't beat that!

Good luck.
